When I saw a promotion for Electro Muscular Stimulation training for the first time, I wasn’t sure what it was. An EMS training facility opened in my neighborhood and was offering complimentary sessions. I figured the best way to answer; what is EMS training was to try it out myself.
From my experience I learned that EMS training is a short but effective and intense low impact exercise that is known to produce high results.

What Is EMS Training & What to Expect
When I arrived for my first EMS session I was given a waver,and I discovered there are contraindications that can prevent people from being able to do EMS training.
Some contraindications are cardiac conditions, metal implants, pregnancy, epilepsy, and cancer.
It's also important to tell your EMS trainer if you have implants. Implants won't completely prevent you from trying EMS, but the trainer will need to avoid the electro stimulation in that area.
After filling out the form. I was given a special suit and vest to wear. The vest was hosed down with water before I put it on. Then the trainer attached the electrodes.
The electrodes stimulate muscle contractions. The electrode current intensity and frequency can be adjusted by your trainer.
My workout began with a 2–3-minute warm-up. The actual workout session was 20 minutes and included upper and lower body exercises.
What I enjoyed most about the EMS workout was the post workout. The post workout stimulation decreased the lactic acid build up which helps your body aid in recovery. This prevents you from being sore after your workout.

On average a monthly session, which includes one weekly 30 min session can range anywhere between $150 and $350 a month.

Can EMS Replace My Normal Workout?
EMS is not a one size fits all fitness remedy.
I also don’t feel that’s it’s a substitute for other physical activity. Relying solely on EMS could lead to imbalances in fitness and strength. I believe EMS can complement traditional workouts.

EMS training can make your body work harder than you may expect, which makes it great for strength training.
If you are looking for a workout that forces you to break away from your norm, and bring you knew results in a shorter time then EMS is worth considering. Just be sure to talk with a doctor and start slow to prevent injury.
