I’m going to dive deep and share my first-hand experience and my personal beliefs on float therapy benefits.
My Personal Experience
Before my float therapy session inside City Cave; located in Fort Lauderdale I slipped on my swimsuit. These float sessions do take place in a private room with a lock. Floating nude is typically recommended by the company, but since I am floating with a friend, we both wore swimsuits.
You are required to shower before the session. What I liked is that inside City Cave the showers are located inside the same private room where you will also be floating. Shampoo, body wash, and ear plugs were also provided.
Before stepping into the pool, I adjusted the light, music and volume. I love that I was able to customize my float session to my relaxation preference. There was also a timer, so I knew when my session was over. I think this is much needed, because I could absolutely see someone falling into a deep sleep.
The pool is filled with 1000 tons of Epsom son salt. Which allows you to float effortlessly, so don’t worry if can’t swim.
After my FLANNA (float/sauna) experience my friend and I went inside the City Cave relaxation room in our comfy robes and drank tea.
Float therapy have been around for a while. Traditionally in the United States float therapy is done in pods. The float therapy pods resemble large tanning beds. In my opinion these older style float therapy pods are not as inviting, mostly because I don’t like being closed in. When I learned about City Caves private pool style float experience, I knew I had to try.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I get a massage or a facial it takes me at 30-45 min before I can really turn my brain off and truly relax. Once the massage is done, I feel as if I missed half of it.
The sauna and float therapy session gave me the true relaxation experience I needed. It gave me time to fully decompress. Block out the noise and enjoy the experience. I didn’t receive a massage on this day, but City Cave does offer massage experiences. I truly think adding a massage would have taken my experience to new level of rest and relaxation.
Honestly, the pure float therapy benefit bliss happened long after I left. The sleep I had that night was the best sleep I had in my life.
Remember: Everyone has a different first float experience, it is recommended that you have at least 3 sessions to maximize the overall benefits. Similar to other practices like yoga or exercise, the benefits are compounded over time.
If you plan on scheduling a float therapy session here are a few things you should avoid before you go.
1. Adding box color to your hair at least 2 weeks.
2. Shaving or waxing 12 hours before
3. Caffeine or alcohol the day of
4. Avoid floating on your menstrual cycle
